Lesson One
Lunch was highly educational.
Today we learnt about.. maggots, mexican beans and worms! Cool eh. All our conversations during lunch were so funny..
Do you know? maggots are the infants of flies? Well. Now you do!
They are, and they are commonly found in decaying matter. They are decomposers, and are unable to survive on living matter, so no worries!! There shouldnt be any problem if you accidentally consume them, though, if they supposedly only live on decaying matter, theres definately some problem with the food you were consuming. (decaying? yikes!)
One colleague ate a fruit and found a worm in the middle! However, she couldnt find any visible holes on the fruit! How did the worm get into the fruit?
Read about it somewhere, that fruit flies are able to lay eggs in fruits without visible holes. Only after a period of time, the worms/maggots/ whatever would make breathing holes (also called exit holes).
How about mexican jumping beans? Mexican jumping beans jump because there are grubs within the bean and they respond to warmth and light. causing the bean to jump when they move around in the bean..
You can read about mexican beans here : http://waynesword.palomar.edu/plaug97.htm
Anyway, me who loves to read went to check out more about maggots and stuff in the net. The wonder of e-commerce. Information at your fingertips!
Read here for more about parasite that reside in the body :

And urm.. gosh, they live in the brain too, check this out : http://pr.caltech.edu/periodicals/EandS/articles/LXVI4/brainworms.html
Makes my skin crawl.. ..
